Mombasa’s Pandya Hospital makes processes digital with SAP Business One

Hospitals across the continent are confronted with challenges brought by technological disruption and increased demands. According to the World Economic Forum, in order to deliver continued improvements to the world’s health, healthcare will need to be transformed, with digital playing a vital role. And when a hospital’s technology is inadequate, the knock-on effects can be alarming.

Pandya Memorial Hospital is based in Mombasa on the Kenyan coast. It was established in 1947 and has 119 beds and a team of 70 specialists providing medical services to the community of Mombasa County. Many healthcare institutions like Pandya Memorial Hospital are being confronted by a massive technology disruption.

According to Rajesh Shukla, chief hospital administrator at Pandya Memorial Hospital, the hospital’s outdated technology platform was limiting their access to real-time data regarding inventory, purchase flow, and financial statements.

“We wanted to automate business processes and improve the cost-to-value structure. Every record was manually recorded. There was a great and immediate need for integration and automation to ensure visibility, leading to our decision to implement SAP BusinessOne.”

SAP BusinessOne provides hospitals with advanced capabilities. Its financial management tools give customers the ability to automate accounting tasks and conduct banking activities; the purchasing and inventory control capabilities gives the hospital access to accurate insight including inventory levels with real-time updates; and with business intelligence capabilities, the hospital is now able to gather data from multiple sources and generate timely and accurate reports to provide an end-to-end solution which is flexible both on-premise or in the cloud.

One of Pandya Memorial Hospital’s key challenges was the late payment of doctors due to a heavy reliance on manual processes.

“With the help of our implementation partners we enabled alerts to doctors and our accounts department for instant updates and quick release of outstanding payments. With a streamlined payment process we have seen improved satisfaction levels from doctors as well as an increase in referrals.”
