DTL CEO highlights value of utility awards

Awards celebrating learning and development in the utility sector should help more firms to see the value of growing their own talent, according to the head of a specialist training company.

Chris Wood, CEO of Develop Training Limited (DTL), was commenting after judging three categories in the Utility Week Stars awards.

Two of the awards highlighted individuals who were showing exceptional career progression while the third underlined the need for senior individuals to champion learning and development.

“Too often, we see businesses failing to adequately invest in training, so it was great to see companies that are committed to developing their people, and individuals who have seized the opportunity,” said Mr Wood.

Mr Wood joined judges from the utilities, consumer policy, technology, and innovation sectors on the panel for the awards, which are a celebration of dedication, ingenuity and team work in the utilities sector.

At the 2018 awards, Rising Star category was won by Ryan Salmon, connections delivery coordinator at SP Energy Networks. The Shooting Star category went to Barry Campbell, head of business change and project management office at Opus Energy, and the Guiding Star Award was presented to Dave Shepherd, head of delivery of the Wirral District for SP Energy Networks.
