Focus on routine to succeed at college

Succeeding in college requires mastering the art of focused studying.  Between dorm life, social activities, and the ever-present allure of technology, staying concentrated can feel like an uphill battle. But fear not, fellow scholars! Here are some techniques to help you create a distraction-free zone and optimise your study sessions:

Craft a dedicated study environment

Find a quiet, well-lit space conducive to concentration. This could be a library carrel, a secluded corner in the coffee shop, or even an organised corner of your dorm room.

Silence the sirens of social media

Silence your phone notifications and avoid the temptation to check social media or email. If necessary, put your phone on silent and stow it away in your bag.

Embrace the power of planning

Schedule dedicated study sessions into your calendar and stick to them. Chunk your study material into manageable segments and create a clear plan for tackling each section.

Befriend the Pomodoro Technique

This time management method involves working in focused 25-minute intervals, followed by short breaks.  The frequent breaks help to refresh your mind and prevent burnout.

Reward yourself

Set small rewards for completing study goals. This could be a short walk in nature, a coffee break with a friend, or an episode of your favourite show.

Remember, routine

By incorporating these techniques into your routine, you'll be well on your way to conquering distractions and achieving academic success. Remember, a focused mind is a powerful tool!
